Apple - Orange Walnut Bread Recipe

For a great combination of baking apple; use Granny Smith, Braeburn, Jonagold, Empire, Regent, Spartan, Newtown apples or a mixture of your favorite apples together.

Bread pan size: 8 x 4 loaf pan
Temp: 350°F degrees
Bread baking time: 60 to 65 minutes
Servings: 1 apple orange walnut bread loaf

1 large fresh orange or 1 cup orange juice
zest from the orange or 1 tablespoon of dried zest
1/2 cup raisins
2 cup apple sauce
2 cup sifted all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup sugar
3/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup chopped walnuts
1 egg
3 tablespoons melted butter

Apple - Orange Walnut Bread Baking Directions

Pre heat the oven. With the palm of your hand, roll the fresh orange around on the counter until soft. At this time zest the orange for zest. Cut the orange in half, wrap the orange with a paper towel to hold better. Squeeze the orange juice from the fresh orange. Set aside.

In a bowl combine orange juice, zest and raisins to the apple sauce. Sift all dry ingredients together. Add apple sauce mixture and walnuts to flour. Mix.

Whisk egg lightly. Add to melted butter, whisking until blended. Stir into orange bread batter.

Pour apple orange bread batter into a greased 8 x 4 inch bread loaf pan. Bake bread for required time. Remove bread from baking pan and cool Apple - Orange Walnut Bread on a wire rack. The Apple - Orange Walnut Bread will slice better if allowed to cool 1 1/2 hours.
