Apple Pie Baking Directions

Pan size: 9 inch pie plate
Temp: 375°F degrees
Apple pie baking time: 50 to 60 minutes
Servings: 8 to 10


Add strawberry jelly to the Apple Pie Recipe for a surprise with no added sugar.

Basic Pie Crust
2 tablespoons all - purpose flour, plus more for dusting
8 large Honey Crisp apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
1/2 cup strawberry jelly
1/3 cup chopped walnuts
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon almond flavoring
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 large egg, beaten
apple shaped cookie cutter

On a lightly floured surface, roll out pie dough into two 1/8 inch thick circles slightly larger then the 9 - inch pie plate. Place one pastry circle into the pie plate. Place the other circle on waxed paper or parchment paper. Cut out 8 to 10 apples with the cookie cutter. Place them in the refrigerator to chill. Pre heat the oven.

In a large bowl, combine apples, sugar, lemon juice, strawberry jelly, walnuts, almond flavoring, spices, and flour. Mix well. Spoon apple pie mixture into pie pan. Dot with butter.

Cover with remaining chilled pie crust. Seal by crimping edges. Brush the apples with the beaten egg, Sprinkle sugar over apples.

Bake apple pie for the allotted time or until crust is golden brown and juices are bubbling. Let apple pie cool on wire rack before serving.
