Caramel Apple Sundae Recipe

Directions

For a great combination of baking apple; use Granny Smith, Braeburn, Jonagold, Empire, Regent, Spartan, Newtown apples or a mixture of your favorite apples together.

Serving dish size: 6 dessert dishes
Cooking time: 4 to 5 minutes
Servings: 6

Enjoy a serving of this easy-to-make dessert on any occasion

1 tablespoons butter or margarine
1 tablespoons brown sugar
2 medium cooking apples, peeled, cored and thinly sliced (about 2 cups)
1-1/2 pint or about 3 cups vanilla ice cream
6 tablespoons caramel ice cream topping
12 Ginger Snaps cookies, coarsely broken

Melt butter in large skillet on medium heat. Stir in brown sugar. Add apples; toss to coat. Cook 4 to 5 minutes or until apples are tender, stirring frequently.

Scoop ice cream evenly into 6 dessert dishes; cover evenly with the warm apple mixture. Top each sundae with 1 tablespoon of the caramel topping and about 2 tablespoons of the ginger snap cookie pieces. Serve immediately.

Garnish with fresh mint sprigs just before serving.
Look for the best apples that are firm and well colored with smooth, blemish-free skins. Choose the variety that best suits your needs. For cooking uses, choose Rhode Island Greening, Rome Beauty or York Imperial varieties. All - purpose apples, such as Cortland, Granny Smith, Jonathan, Fuji, Gravenstein, Empire, Jonagold, McIntosh, Pippin, Northern Spy, Winesap, are suitable for both cooking and snacking.
