Homemade Buttermilk Recipe

For a great combination of baking apple; use Granny Smith, Braeburn, Jonagold, Empire, Regent, Spartan, Newtown apples or a mixture of your favorite apples together.

Pan size: small bowl
Set time: 15 minutes
Servings: make one cup of homemade buttermilk

You don't have buttermilk!
What are you gonna do? Here's four easy solutions.


Option 1 for homemade butter milk is.

1 cup whole milk
either 1 3/4 tablespoons cream of tartar
or
1 tablespoon white vinegar
or
1 tablespoon lemon juice

Add one of these ingredient - cream of tartar, vinegar or lemon juice - to the milk and stir. Let buttermilk stand at room temperature for 15 minutes.

The buttermilk should start to curdle. Stir homemade buttermilk well before using.

Option 2 for homemade butter milk.

3/4 cup plain yogurt
1/4 cup whole milk

Stir yogurt and milk to together. Use in replace of one cup buttermilk in most recipes.
